Here’s why I am doing this: Over the last few years, I’ve sold around 700 copies and given away another 300+. It’s become very clear that it’s hard to make real money selling books and audiobooks—and honestly, that was never the main reason I wrote it.
I wrote Doubt Riding Shotgun to help people give themselves permission to do brave things.
I became a coach even though I never felt like I “had it all together.”
I became a singer-songwriter after being pretty sure I didn’t have enough talent, even performing my first solo show at Tim’s Tavern and playing LIVE on the radio.
I’ve given dozens of talks on podcasts and hosted workshops on overcoming self-doubt for NAMM, Andrea Stolpe, Far West, Pandion Music Foundation, Production Music Conference, and many others.
I’ve also played the Royal Room, Folk Life Music Festival, busked in New York City with my son, and shared my music and videos with thousands of strangers online.
I also know now that I’m just getting started. I believe my best work is ahead of me.
I do all this as a Gen-X kid who’s deeply suspicious of the tech-greed attention economy. But these are the channels we have, so I try to use them with care: no rage-bait, no “gotcha” posts—just honest stories and tools that might help you see yourself in a kinder light.
Writing this book was genuinely enlightening for me. It’s a field guide to working with your self-doubt instead of letting it drive the car—recognizing it, naming it, and learning from it rather than being ruled by it.
Since it came out, I’ve received dozens of personal letters and over forty 5-star reviews on Amazon. That still blows my mind.
